In a daring move, a techie, who also sustained injuries, bravely fought off highway robbers forcing them to flee in Karnataka capital Bengaluru.
The victim Naresh (name changed) had sustained 20 stab wounds in the incident. As the robbers attacked the man, his wife sitting next to him in the car hit the accelerator causing the car to ram into the motorbike of the muggers.
According to a report in Times of India, the incident took place near Hebbal flyover early Monday morning when the couple was travelling towards Chikkamangaluru. The couple, who are in their late 20s, saw the robbers thrashing two men and snatching valuables from them at knifepoint.
Naresh said he immediately realised that the two men needed help.
“My wife and I immediately raised an alarm after seeing the robbers. They turn their bikes and moved towards us and parked their bike in front of us. With a knife in their hand, one of them came near the car door and tried to snatch the car keys. As I tried to fend him off, he attacked me on the face with the knife. I latched on to his hand but he continued to hit me on my face, neck and hand,” Naresh said while narrating his ordeal.
“My husband was wearing a gold chain and I thought the robbers would try to steal it. I immediately pressed the clutch while shifting gear and hit the accelerator hard. The car then rammed into the motorbike and a robber sitting on it fell down causing both of them to run away leaving their bike. Later, the two victims also ran towards us,” the report quoted techie’s wife Manisha (name changed) as saying.
Later, Naresh was admitted to a private hospital near the flyover. The couple then informed Kodigehalli police.
