Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA) Deputy Commissioner General Roza Mbilizi has been granted bail after spending two nights in police cell.
Mbilizi, a suspected Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) cadet was arrested on Friday on allegations of abuse of office.
She is expected to appear in court this week for formal charges.
Mbilizi is accused of dubiously clearing 400,000 bags of cement belonging to former President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika.
Apart from that, Mbilizi is being probed over how she facilitated sale of houses belonging to the tax collecting body.
