Government ministries, departments and agencies and private-sector entities such as banks, hospitals and major retailers have toughened their Covid-19 prevention measures by directing that no one will be served there if they do not put on a face mask, among others.

One of the public institutions which has announced the new measures, the Directorate of Road Traffic and Safety Services (DRTSS), says the recent upsurge in Covid-19 cases has prompted the institution to put in place the measures which include limitations on vehicles seating capacities.

DRTSS Public Relations Officer, Angellina Makwecha, said that some of the preventive measures include a reduction in public transport by 60 percent while observing social distance, disinfection of all public vehicles before commencement of every trip and washing hands of all passengers before entering a bus or a minibus.

Minibus Owners Association of Malawi National Chairperson, Felix Mbonekera Msiska, welcomed the measures, saying all of the will be followed and that anyone found violating them will face the law.
