Police in Dowa have launched a manhunt for a man suspected to have committed an offence of acts intended to cause grevious harm.
The suspect only identified as Funani, whose full particulars not advised, committed the offence between the night of Wednesday, July 15 2020 and Thursday, July 16 2020 at Thambwe Village within Dowa Turn Off while the victim is Nasil Sheriff aged 19 from Kanyenda Village in Traditional Authority Kanyenda in Nkhotakota District.
It is alleged that the victim was assisting the suspect in restaurant business and during the particular night, the victim went to his employer’s (suspect) home to give him the cash but had a shortfall of K2800 cash.
This angered the suspect who took the victim to a nearby bush where he tied him up with a rope, soaked him with petrol and set him ablaze before fleeing to unknown destination.
Later, the victim struggled for his life and managed to reach Dowa Turn Off roadblock for police assistance.
The victim was referred to Lumbadzi Health Centre where he was also rushed to Kamuzu Central Hospital where he is currently admitted.
Meanwhile, police have launched a manhunt for the suspect and if arrested, he will answer a charge of acts intended to cause grevious harm.
