Former president Peter Mutharika, on Saturday celebrated his 80th birthday as he received best wishes from supporter of Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) and President Lazarus Chakwera.
Mutharika who was born on July 18, 1940 lost in the fresh presidential elections sanctioned by the Constitutional Court.
In a press statement from the Office of President Cabinet (OPC) Chakwera wished Mutharika a happy 80th day.
“The State President of the Republic of Malawi His Excellency Dr. Lazarus Chakwera, wishes the former president Prof Arthur Peter Mutharika, a happy 80th birthday,” reads part of the statement.
Mutharika a one term president acknowledged wishes from the public on twitter thanking them for celebrating with him on his day.
“Today is another day as I have added another years on the cards, I thank the almighty God for taking me this far and all of you for always being with me throughout my academic and political journey,” twitted Mutharika.
