The Tobacco Commission (TC) has resolved to wrap up sales of tobacco at Limbe Auction floors this month end, due to limited stock levels, according to TC Chief Executive Officer, Kaisi Sadala.

The call follows after the floors have been selling an average of 1,500 bales a day, compared to 5,000 bales of tobacco per day, which was once achievable. A sales and deliveries committee has resolved that the market be closed for this year’s season. The rest of the floors will remain open until sales complete, therefore tobacco growers that were selling at Limbe still have a chance to sell.

Meanwhile, TC recently announced that it is considering the introduction of e-ticketing of tobacco marketing to replace physical auctioning on the floors. The AHL Tobacco Sales general manager Graham Kunimba told The Nation newspaper that the initiative will be launched towards the end of this year’s marketing season.
