Power generation is expected to be boosted at Tedzani Power Station after the completion of the additional Tedzani 4 power station which is under construction in Blantyre.

The assurance was made by the Minister of Energy Newton Kambala when he toured Tedzani 4 power station to appreciate some of the works that the Electricity Generation Company(EGENCO) is currently implementing.

Kambala has also assured people in the country of Government’s commitment to making sure that power is available without interruption.

“We want everyone to have power all day everyday without outages and this will happen in no time,” said Kambala.
“Power blackouts will be history, ” he added.

. The Minister said it is the wish of President Dr Lazarus Chakwera to see every Malawian enjoying power every day regardless of the season of the year.

He then expressed happiness that after completion Tedzani 4 will be provide additional 18 megawatts to the national grid and power blackouts and outages will be reduced drastically.

“Tedzani 4 Power Station is going to change things for the better, 18 megawatts will bring wonders.

The President has assured us that he doesn’t want to hear Malawians complaining about power blackouts or shortages. Malawians need to see a big change because they voted for change.”

EGENCO Chief Executive Officer William Liabunya said currently the company is generating about 200 megawats and is expected to generate more following innovations that are taking place in all power stations.

“As you can see now that blackouts have been reduced because we have put in place various mechanisms aimed at improving our generation so we promise Malawians out there of uninterrupted power supply,” said Liabunya

The construction of Tedzani 4 started in 2018 and is expected to end in February next year.

Tedzani 1 and 2 are housed in one power house and were commissioned in 1973 and 1976 respectively.

Currently Tedzani power station which comprises 3 power stations produce 102 megawatts and it will be producing 120 megawatts once Tedzani 4 is completed.
