Chief Director for the National Registration Bureau (NRB) Mackford Somanje has been relieved of his duties with immediate effect.
This has been confirmed in a letter signed by Chief Secretary to the government Zanga-Zanga Chikhosi addressed to Somanje dated July 21, 2020.
According to Chikhosi, Capital Hill is no longer interested in the services of Somanje.
Somanje’s firing follows report that he allowed minors in Thyolo, Mulanje and Phalombe to register in redness for the just passed June 23, 2020 fresh Presidential polls which saw Dr. Lazarus Chakwera being elected as President of Malawi.
The move attracted strong condemnation with many calling for his immediate firing but the then President Peter Mutharika spared him.
