In Kenya, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations [DCI] is holding three men who allegedly killed their two friends after a dispute over a bet at a gambling centre.
The three suspects held at Kayole police station are John Wanjiru, Samuel Wachira Ngatia and Dennis Makori Nyakundi.
“On the night of July 19, the respondents had a quarrel with the two deceased persons after an argument at a gambling den,” detective constable Leonard Ochola of Kayole DCI offices stated in an affidavit filed at the Makadara law courts.
“The respondents went ahead and subjected the two deceased to a beating with stones and murdered them.”
He was applying for orders to detain the suspects for 10 days to conduct the investigations into the murder.
Ochola said he needs time to record witness statements and lift the fingerprints of the deceased persons and forward them to the registrar of persons for identification.
The detective will thereafter obtain the post-mortem report to ascertain what caused the deaths of the two and get mental assessment reports of the three suspects.
Senior principal magistrate Merissa Opondo granted the orders sought by Ochola.
