Lingadzi Police have arrested four men for multiple robbery cases reported in Lilongwe.

Lingadzi Police Public Relations Officer, Salome Zgambo confirmed the incident saying the arrests took place after series of robbery with violence were reported at the station.

Zgambo said during the months of May and July, it was reported that criminals used to hire motorcyclists from various locations within the city, and in the process robbed them off.

She said the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) took up the matter and later managed to trace the culprits.

“Police managed to arrest the suspects and recovered over five motorcycles in Chankhungu and Chezi in Dowa district,” she said.

The suspects have been identified as Fatsani Banda, 33, Pemphero Mpango, 36, Bonface Chiswe, 22 and Amos Phiri, 20.

The four hail from Kathola Village in Traditional Authority (T/A) Mwase in Kasungu, Changwe Village in T/A Chimutu in Lilongwe, Sharp Valley Village T/A Ganya in Ntcheu, and Chinthebe Village T/A Thomas in Thyolo district, respectively.

The four suspects will answer three counts of robbery with violence, theft, and being found in possession of properties suspected to have been stolen.

Police are, therefore, advising all motor cyclists to register their motorbikes because one of the contributing factors of such cases is numerous unregistered motorcycles that are illegally operating within the city.
