Civil Society organizations in Nsanje have intensified efforts to trace funds amounting to MK 842 Million which have been reported missing at the district council.
Their efforts also come as fuel worth MK59 Million has not been accounted for at the council.
Most of the funds were misappropriated through dubious deals run by the procurement department.
As the organizations are discussing plans to probe the matter, the NGO Board is drilling local authorities on identification of legitimate NGOs operating in the district.
This comes amid an observation that most of the unregistered organisations are involved in corrupt practices.
About 20 unregistered NGOs are operating in the district as 40 are recognized by the board.
