Police in Kasungu district have arrested a suspect who is alleged to have stolen a four months old male child at Juma trading centre in the district.

According to Kasungu Police Station Spokesperson, Harry Namwaza identified the suspect as Rodha Chirwa who has been arrested at Kamboni area where she went with the child.

“The suspect committed the offence on Monday 27 at Juma location around the afternoon and the police quickly rolled out a manhunt to arrest the suspect,” Namwaza said.

Namwaza said that according to the mother of the child, Eliza Tchongwe, 18 was chatting with a strange woman who had come to her house pretending she wanted to meet somebody at a nearby house.

“In the course of chatting, the suspect asked to help carrying her baby since she was busy with house work,” he said.

“Trusting the suspect she took advantage of their shot time chat and handed the child to her before going to a nearby maize mill. Surprisingly, when she came back the suspect was nowhere to be seen,” he said.

The police intensified their investigations up until they arested the suspect.

Rodha Chirwa hails from Chingala village in the area of traditional authority Kawamba in Kasungu district.
