The Malawi Police Service (MPS) has revealed the cause of Bob Mtekama’s death, Head of Criminal Investigations Department (CID).

Mtekama died on Tuesday at Adventist Hospital In Blantyre, just weeks after President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera appointed him as Head of CID.

In a statement released on Wednesday made available to Faceofmalawi, National Police Spokesperson James Kadadzera said Mtekama died of Coronavirus.

According to Kadadzera, Mtekama, who joined the Malawi Police Service on June 27, 1992 will be laid to rest today at his home village in Nkhotakota.

Despite the statement, many Malawians suspect foul play on Mtekama’s death considering the fact that he was the one handling investigations into the death of Issaac Njauji of the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB).

The law enforcers have since arrested bodyguard of former President Peter Mutharika, Norman Chisale over Njauji’s death.
