State vice president Saulos Chilima has asked government officials not to use private E-mails when transacting government business.

Chilima made the call yesterday when he engaged the Minster of Information Gospel Kazako on the progress of reforms in his ministry.

Giving a daily update on his Facebook page, Chilima said he suggested to the Minister Kazako to work out on ensuring that government officials are not using private E-mails when transacting government business.

“In the same vein, I also suggested to the Minister to work on a cut-off point where senior government officials must stop transacting government business on private emails. I am very passionate about this. This tendency can’t go on,” Chilima said.

According to the vice president, Kazako suggested that there is a need for the entire government Information Communication Technology (ICT) infrastructure to be upgraded.

‘The first reform area the Minister presented was the upgrade of the entire government ICT infrastructure,” he said.

He added; “We all agreed that this upgrade must be achieved as soon as possible because ICT will be an enabler for implementation of various reforms from other ministries ranging from e-agriculture to e-wallet.”
