Liwonde Senior Magistrate Court sitting in Balaka Tuesday sentenced 31 year old Feston Majiya to eight years imprisonment with hard labour after the court found him guilty of defiling a minor.

Balaka Police Publicist, Felix Misomali said State Prosecutor, Sub Inspector Lyton Kachikondo told the court that Majiya defiled the minor in March and April 2020.

He said the convict enticed the girl and defiled her twice at ‘Wabwino ali kuti’ Rest house in the district.

“Concerned people gave the victim’s mother a tip off about Matiyas conduct. She questioned her daughter thoroughly and this prompted the mother to seek medical intervention that revealed that defilement really happened, “he said.

Kachikondo asked the court to impose stiffer penalty on Majiya to deter would be offenders.

In his submission, Senior Resident Magistrate, Muhammad Chande concurred with the state prosecutor that defilement is a serious crime.

He therefore imposed stiffer punishment to Majiya which translated into an eight year imprisonment with hard labour.

Majiya hails from Chingangwe Village, Traditional Authority Nsamala in Balaka.
