A 31-year-old man has been sentenced to eight years imprisonment with hard labour by Liwonde Magistrate Court after being found guilty of defilement charge.
The state prosecutor, Sub-Inspector Lyton Kachikondo told the court that Feston Majiya defiled a minor in March and April this year.
He said the convict enticed the girl and defiled her twice at Wabwino ali kuti Rest house in the district.
“Concerned people gave the victim’s mother a tip off about Matiyas conduct. She questioned her daughter thoroughly and this prompted the mother to seek medical intervention that revealed that defilement really happened, “he said.
Misomali further said Kachikondo asked the court to impose stiffer penalty on Majiya to deter would be offenders.
In his submission, Senior Resident Magistrate, Muhammad Chande concurred with the state prosecutor that defilement is a serious crime.
He therefore imposed stiffer punishment to Majiya which translated into an eight year imprisonment with hard labour.
Majiya hails from Chingangwe Village, Traditional Authority Nsamala in Balaka.
