Authorities at Mzuzu City Council (MCC) are in need of K1.5 billion to help them settle debts and cater for other operations in order to provide quality services to both residents and companies.

The council’s Chief Executive Officer, Gomegzani Nyasulu and Mayor for the city, Councillor Brian Nyasulu say the debts were accumulated because the council could not collect enough revenue compared with its expenditures.

They nonetheless assured Deputy Minister of Local Government, Halima Daudi, who paid a visit to the council, that it has set standards to control poor financial management by, among others, introducing Automating Revenue System.
