Malawi Police have started enforcing the updated laws of the Public Health (Corona Virus and Covid-19) Prevention, Containment and Management Rules 2020 which were gazetted on Friday.
In the newly gazetted rules, wearing of face masks is no mandatory as a way of halting the spread coronavirus in the country.
According to the rules, those who will be found disregarding the newly updated rules will be fined K10, 000 or being imprisoned.
National Police Spokesperson, James Kadadzera, confirmed of the development that police officers across the country have started enforcing the rules in all public places.
Meanwhile over 4, 000 people have been infected with virus and half of the infected have recovered, at least 140 people succumbed to the disease.
