Evangelical Association of Malawi (EAM) has called on the general public and faith leaders to stay calm over the recent updated Covid-19 rules by the government with an aim of stopping massive spread of coronavirus.

According to a press statement issued by the Association, t will be important giving the government a dialogue rather than panicking over the imposed restrictions.

The appeal follows growing criticism by various religious groupings on the new rule banning public gatherings in an effort to control the spread of coronavirus.

Churches have expressed displeasure over the government’s decision to restrict public gatherings including religious meetings to 10 people and below.

In a statement on the matter, EAM General Secretary Francis Mkandawire is appealing for calm from both the faith leadership and the public.

Mkandawire is optimistic that the said dialogue would see the two sides reaching an amicable agreement on the debate.
