State Vice President Dr. Saulos Chilima has asked the Mzuzu City Council to launch keep Mzuzu City Clean initiative to help in management of waste.
Chilima said this in a statement posted on his official page seen by this publication.
“I am appalled by the poor waste management in Mzuzu City. I have suggested to the council to strongly consider launching a Keep Mzuzu City Clean initiative where residents would be involved to save the city from its current state of affairs,” wrote Chilima.
Mzuzu City Council workers have been on strike for close to three months due to failure by the council management to pay them their wages.
The disgruntled workers resumed work a week ago after the council promised to settle them.
It is reported that the Council is in financial hiccups and the council is seeking a bail out from government.
