State Vice President Dr. Saulos Chilima is in Mzuzu meeting with heads of Parastatal Organizations found in the North on Public Sector Reforms.
Chilima confirmed of the meeting in a statement posted on his official facebook page seen by this publication.
In his statement, Chilima said he has recommended renovation of Sunbird Mzuzu Hotel facilities which is in poor state.
“At the start of my discussion with northern region based Parastatal Organizations and Local Councils on Public Sector Reforms in Mzuzu this morning, I observed a number of issues that must be looked into as soon as possible.
“First, Sunbird Mzuzu Hotel facilities are in a poor state and must be renovated with urgency. The conference facilities and rooms leave a lot to be desired. To say the least, the Hotel does not reflect what a hotel ought to be in 2020,” wrote Chilima.
He added: “As such, on behalf of His Excellency Dr. Lazarus Chakwera, President of the Republic, and on behalf of the Minister of Tourism, Dr. Michael Usi, I have directed that Sunbird Mzuzu Hotel be renovated as soon as possible just like Sunbird has done with some of its hotels.”
This is the first trip to Mzuzu since Tonse Alliance under President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera won the fresh Presidential polls on June 23, 2020.
