An unidentified passenger has died while two drivers got injured in a road accident along Blantyre-Zalewa M1 road.

The accident occurred on Monday around 14:00 hours near 17 Miles. Nissan Tilda saloon registration number BS 4383 driven by Reverend Patrick Manyawa of Evangelical Church of Malawi, was driving from Blantyre to Zalewa.

Upon reaching at the said place, there was Freightliner registration number CA 2728/SA739 which was being driven by Mr Mike Mphyanga of Siku transport.

It is said that a Nissan Tilda saloon, registration number BS 4383, driven by Reverend Patrick Manyawa, was overtaking a Siku Transport freightliner.

However the Tilda Saloon collided with an oncoming minibus, CZ8895 Toyota Hiace, which was being driven by Simewa Nkhoma of CZ Tours before colliding with the freightliner, CA 2728/SA 739.

Due to the impact, one passenger from the Nissan Tilda died instantly and some other passengers and drivers of both Nissan and minibus got some fractures.

They were rushed to Mulambe Health Centre where they were referred to Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital for treatment.

Police in Chileka are reminding all road users to observe road traffic rules and regulations to avoid accidents.
