Police in Dowa district have arrested four people who were allegedly trafficking forest produce on the night of Wedneday, August, 19 at Jelia park along Dowa-Dzaleka Tarmac road.
Dowa Police Public Relations Officer (PRO), Sub Inspector Gladson M’bumpha identified the four suspects as Aubrey Maliwa, 34, of Mbedza Village, Sekelani Vutisani, 24, of Kambidzi Village, Mechuwelo Black, 34, of Zangala Village, both from Traditional Authority Chiwere in Dowa and Sonyezani Diva, 34, of Kanyezi Village in Traditional Authority Chilikumwendo in Dedza District.
“Facts relating to the case are that; on the particular night police officers were conducting patrols and came across a motor vehicle registration number MN 7099 Toyota Dyna Two Tonner passing within Dowa Boma,” said M’bumpha.
Police followed the vehicle and managed to stop it before arresting the driver and his friends for trafficking and possession of 55 bags of charcoal.
Both charcoal and motor vehicle have been impounded.
The suspects will appear before court soon to answer a charge of trafficking forest produce.
