In Kenya, two boys from Lundi village in Mwingi East Sub County died Saturday night after they were circumcised on Wednesday by a traditional circumciser.
According to the local chief, Paul Mwaniki, the boys bled profusely and the parents did not take the boys to a hospital because the sect they belong to, Kavonokya, does not permit adherents to seek professional medical care.
Police have since arrested the 70-year-old circumciser and he is set to face charges when the investigations are completed.
The elderly woman is said to have circumcised about 12 boys on Wednesday, August 19, using only a razor blade.
Following the incident, Chief Mwaniki warned parents in the region against taking their children to traditional circumcisers for the cut.
The bodies of the two boys, who were aged 5 and 7, were taken to the Mwingi Level Four Hospital mortuary.
