Commotion has erupted in Mulanje as youths from Chitakale and surrounding villages are protesting a move by management of Chitakale Tea Estate Company to turn Chitakale football ground into a sugarcane field.
The concerned youth blocked Midima road with tree branches and big stones, making the road impassable.
Police officers from Mulanje were deployed to the scene to calm down the situation by firing teargas at the angry protesters.
In retaliation, the youth pelted stones at the law enforcers resulting into running battles.
Meanwhile the situation is still tense in the area.
