A liquor trader allegedly used his pet dog to evade arrest during a police raid. The accused man’s dog chased the cops away and even attacked a constable during the raid. The incident took place on Saturday evening in Ganjam district of Gujarat.
The area where the raid was conducted falls under the limits of the Kodala police station. The accused man was identified as Rabi Nahak.
Nahak had allegedly been selling chicken and liquor during the weekend shutdown imposed in Ganjam due to the coronavirus outbreak. After learning about the accused’s activities, the police took the decision of conducting a raid at the suspect’s home.
On seeing the police, Nahak and his sons allegedly started pelting stones at them. The accused persons allegedly attacked the cops with sharp-edged weapons.
When the police started searching the accused’s outlet, his pet Labrador dog allegedly started barking at the cops. The aggressive canine did not let the police team enter the outlet, The Times of India reported.
The dog allegedly chased the cops and bit constable Jagannath Behera’s left hand. Jagannath suffered injuries on his left hand. Some of the villagers told the police that the dog had bitten some of the locals earlier.
As the dog attacked the cops, the accused managed to escape. The police registered a case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
After the incident, the police conducted a raid at Nahak’s home and confiscated 350 litres of country-made liquor along with 50 litres of foreign liquor. Weapons used by the accused were also seized by the police. The accused, however, have not been arrested yet.
