State President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera has said he will soon convene a military council to discuss the appointment of Deputy Commander of the Malawi Defennce Force (MDF).

Chakwera said this during the State of the Nation Address where he announced the reinstatement of General Vincent Nundwe as the MDF Commander.

According to Chakwera, the meeting will also discuss other measures which he is allowed to implement at the recommendation of the council as stated in Section 161 subsection 4 of the Constitution as read with Section 10 subsection 1 of the Defence Force Act.

Before being fired as MDF Commander by former President Peter Mutharika in 2019, Nundwe was being deputized by Clement Namangale.

Meanwhile Nundwe has expressed gratitude with his re-appoitment saying it is an opportunity to finish what he had started.
