A heartbroken Zimbabwean man killed himself by hanging, after his wife dumped him, iHarare reports.

Eton Sibanda is suspected to have hanged himself in his bedroom hut almost a week after he had said that he was planning to follow his wife back to her parent’s place to beg for reconciliation.

Eton’s wife whose name has not been disclosed left her matrimonial home and returned to her parents’ home following problems with the couple’s marriage.

At the time of publishing,   it was unclear why the couple had separated and the exact circumstances which led to Eton committing suicide are yet to be fully established.

His body was discovered by his elder brother, Gareth Sibanda, who was under the impression that Eton had gone to his in-laws to seek reconciliation.

Speaking to online publication, New Zimbabwe, Gareth narrated how he had come across his brother’s body which was now in a state of advanced decomposition. He went on to say that he came across the grisly scene after he had decided to check up on his sibling.

“On Saturday at 7 pm, I decided to go through his homestead checking his livestock since he had not updated me about his return. As I approached the homestead, I was welcomed by a strong stench coming for the yard.

“I saw his dog on the bedroom hut door and as I went closer. I saw a swarm of flies on the windowpanes and curtains,” said Garreth.

He said he rushed to inform a neighbour, one Mapito Hunter Ndlovu who is also their relative and the two went back to the homestead whereupon peeping through the window, they spotted the body hanging from a roof truss with a rope.

The authorities have since ruled Eton’s death a suicide after Hwange magistrate Barbara Phiri waived postmortem because no foul play was suspected.
