A 27-year-old woman in Dowa has died due to head injuries when the motor vehicle she was travelling in bumped into a pothole.
Sub Inspector Gladson M’bumpha, Dowa Police Public Relations Officer (PRO) said the deceased has been identified as Tolia Phiri from Mafuta Village in the area of Traditional Authority Kabunduli in Nkhatabay District.
According to M’bumpha, the accident happened on Monday evening at Chiponda Village along Salima-Lilongwe road, involving a motor vehicle registration number MN 7422 Nissan Serena, driven by Abel Phiri, 32, of Mafuta Village in Traditional Authority Kabunduli in Nkhatabay.
“Traffic police report indicates that on the fateful day, the vehicle was coming from Lilongwe to Salima direction with six passengers on board.
Upon reaching at Chiponda Village the driver bumped into a big pothole and as a result the motor vehicle overturned and rested sideways at the middle of the road.” Explained M’bumpha
“Due to the impact, the victim Tolia Phiri sustained severe head injuries and was pronounced dead at Chezi Private Hospital in Dowa while the driver sustained general body pains.” Indicated M’bumpha
Sub Inspector M’bumpha, mentioned that the motor vehicle had its windscreen broken, rear bumper detached from its place, offside rear tyre bursted and rear windscreen shattered.
“The dead body has been taken to Salima District Hospital mortuary.” Added M’bumpha
