Alliance For Democracy (AFORD) has distances itself from remarks made by the party’s president Yeremiah Chihana when responding to State of National Address (SONA) by President Lazarus Chakwera.
In a press statement made available to Face of Malawi, AFORD’s acting Secretary General Grace Chupa said the remarks made by Chihana do not reflect the views of the party.
According to the statement, AFORD cannot respond to the SONA because it is part and parcel of Tonse Alliance.
“AFORD cannot respond to the SONA for we are part and parcel of the Tonse Alliance. Hon Chihana was voicing out his concerns in his capacity as a member of of parliament,” reads the statement.
Furthermore the statement; “AFORD wishes to categorically state that the position taken by the Honourable Chihana is entirely his personal views and does not in a way represent the stand of AFORD in the Tonse Alliance,” said Chupa.
