Maula Prison in the capital Lilongwe has been disinfected by one of the country’s corporate players Pest Chem 1B as a way of partnering with government to disrupt the further spread of Covid-19.
According to Managing Director for the fumigation company Martin Mainja, the step is part of the firm’s response to bolster Malawi’s fight against the global health outbreak.
Environmental officer with the prison Welbes Tembo has since lauded the company for the gesture, pointing out that the step is key to efforts aimed at keeping the prison COVID – 19 free.
“Maula prison currently has 23 inmates in isolation,” he added.
Among other reasons, health experts say isolation is effected if one has tested positive for coronavirus, or if they project symptoms of coronavirus.
Such include high body temperature, loss or change to your sense of smell or taste and a new, continuous cough.
