The National Assembly is on Wednesday set to deliberate on the confirmation of new Inspector General (IG) of the Malawi Police Service (MPS) Dr. George Kainja.
Speaker of the National Assembly Catherine Gotani Hara disclosed this when Parliament resumed on Monday afternoon where MPS started responding to the state of the nation address (SONA) delivered by President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera on Friday last week.
According to Hara, Minister of Homeland Security Richard Chimwendo Banda who is also leader of the house will move a motion for parliament to confirm or reject Dr. Kainja.
President Chakwera appointed Kainja just after ascending to the High office on June 23, 2020 to replace Duncan Mwapasa who was viewed as a youth cadet for the Democratic progressive Party (DPP).
