As schools have reopened across the country, Mchinji district has registered a low turnout of girls due to the long Coronavirus induced holiday.
In March this year, former President Peter Mutharika directed the closure of schools after the country registered Covid-19 cases.
A recent report indicates that 28 percent of early marriages were recorded in the district since the closure of schools in March.
After the closure of schools the country has recorded a drastic rise of teenage pregnancies and early marriages.
However, government is putting much effort in ensuring that all girls who have been sent out int marriages are withdrawn.
Minister of Gender Patricia Kaliati, has warned that all men who married young girls will be arrested including parents who sent off their children.
