Government has said duty free week will not be implemented now due to the global pandemic Coronavirus.

Ahead of June 23 fresh presidential elections, Tonse Alliance promised that it will introduce duty free week to help people with small businesses to have a chance bring in their goods.

According to the Tonse Alliance led government coronavirus has affected the monthly revenue collection which has dropped by 11 percent.

Minister of Finance Felix Mlusu, says the decision might be difficult to roll out now but assured Malawians that once the situation improves, Capital Hill was eager to implement as a way of improving the economic well-being of the citizenry.

Meanwhile, an economic expert, Millward Tobias, has advised the Chakwera administration to shelve some of the campaign pledges if it is to make meaningful progress in development.
