A 23-year-old Zambian police officer has allegedly committed suicide by throwing himself into a river.
The deceased, who has been identified as Kainga Kainga, is alleged to have thrown himself into the Kafue river.
Copperbelt Commissioner of Police Charity Katanga, who confirmed the development, said she could not give any further details because the body was yet to be retrieved.
She said her office had received such a report but was waiting to speak once the body is retrieved.
“We cannot be so sure, he threw himself in the river, what if he was killed and dumped there? So for now, we wait for the body to be retrieved,” Mrs Katanga said.
Meanwhile, Zambia Army officers from Ndola were called in to help in the search of the body.
