Human Right Defenders Coalition (HRDC) will on Wednesday hold a media briefing in the capital Lilongwe where issues of governance and transparency will be the main vocal point.
This has been confirmed in a statement posted on Billy Mayaya’s official facebook page seen by this publication.
The briefing which will be chaired by HRDC Chairperson Gift Trapence will start at 9:30am, according to the statement.
Since Tonse Alliance under President Dr. Lazarus chakwera took over the reign of power on June 23, 2020 after outclassing the Democratic Progress Party (DPP) under Peter Mutharika through the court sanction fresh Presidential polls, HRDC has been silent.
The natural death of HRDC has attracted mixed reactions with many Malawians claiming that most of the HRDC members are affiliated to Tonse Alliance but claim has been quashed.
HRDC under the helm of former Chairperson Timothy Mtambo, now Minister of Civic Education and National Unity led Malawians in holding mass protest against the outcome of the May 21, 2019 tripartite election which saw Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) declaring Peter Mutharika as winner.
HRDC accused MEC under Dr. Jane Ansah of failing to manage the polls.
