Member of Parliament for Mzimba North Constituency Yeremia Chihana has withdrawn an allegation of bribery among Cabinet Ministers under the reign of Dr. Lazarus Chakwera.
Last week Chihana claimed in Parliament that some Cabinet Ministers are soliciting bribes from Malawian businesspersons of Asian origin.
The development forced leader of the House Richard Chimwendo Banda to demand evidence from Chihana.
Then the Speaker Catherine Gotani Hara asked to submit the evidence to her office and she gave him Friday as the deadline.
When asked as to whether Chihana has submitted the evidence, Parliamentary spokesperson Ian Mwenye said Chihana has withdrawn the claim.
“Please note that the Honourable Member has since withdrawn the corruption allegations,” Mwenye said.
He could not shed more light on whether Chihana stands to face any punitive actions for the statement.
Last week, Chakwera challenged Chihana to ride with him in the convoys to show him the evidence.
