United Transformation Movement (UTM) has appointed Hussein Mwalabu as the party’s acting regional governor for Eastern Region.
Mwalabu replaces the then regional governor who died with Coronavirus a month ago.
UTM Publicity Secretary Joseph Chidanti Malunga confirmed of the development in a statement released on Wednesday made available to faceofmalawi.
“We announce the appointment of Mr. Hussein Mwalabu as Acting Regional Governor for Eastern Region.
“This effectively means that the election of a Regional Governor, Eastern Region has been suspended indefinitely,” reads in part the statement.
He added: “The decision was made by a delegation sent by the President and Secretary General, which was led by the Deputy SG.”
UTM is currently is in alliance with Malawi Congress Party (MCP) under the banner of Tonse Alliance led by Dr. Lazarus Chakwera.
