Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Vice President for the South Kondwani Nankhumwa’s disciplinary hearing has been called off after he raised concerns about the composition of the panel.

Nankhumwa argued that some of the members of the panel were interested parties and eyeing the party’s presidency at the next convention and also the position of Leader of Opposition.

Lawyer for Nankhumwa Gift Khonyongwa told the press that the meeting resolved to let the panel go back to the drawing board and report later.

Members of the panel included George Chaponda, Bright Msaka, Samuel Tembenu and Charles Mhango.

The panellists left the venue without granting interviews to journalists.

Nankhumwa is being accused of declaring himself as leader of opposition in Parliament without seeking consent from the Party President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika.

The disciplinary committee is also interested in Nankhumwa’s controversial qualifications.

Nankhumwa is also being accused of meeting Malawi Congress Party (MCP) top officials without the approval of Mutharika who is currently residing at his retirement home in Mangochi.

DPP is currently rocked up in leadership crisis with many calling for an early convention to replace Mutharika.
