Death has been announced of Veteran Journalist Akwete Sande who once worked as Chief editor for the now defunct Big Issue Magazine owned by former Ambassador to Japan Dr. John James Chikago.

Sande died in Blantyre on Thursday, September 17, 2020 after a battle with cancer.

Media Institute of Southern Africa (MISA) Malawi Chapter has expressed shock over the untimely death of Sande who also once worked with the state controlled Malawi Broadcasting Corporation (MBC).

Sande was the founding publisher of the defunct Malawi Today, a bi-weekly tabloid. He also worked for Malawi Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) and later with St. Louis Post Dispatch in Missouri, United States. Sande had a stint with Times Group as a correspondent.

Burial for Sande will take place in Edward Kwisongole Village (around 6 Miles) in Zomba today, September 18, 2020.
