Women in Chiradzulu who are running a tailoring and design business have challenged their fellow women not to look down upon themselves but to venture into vocational skills.

In an interview with face of Malawi online Zainab Chapunga and Gladys Zione who come from Kapalamula village in traditional authority Mpama in Chiradzulu district observed that a lot of women are not self reliant economically as their are depending much on their husbands to provide for the basic needs.

Zione argued that this tendency should stop saying women too have a potential to support for the families financially.

According to Zione in 2015 she was trained as a tailor by At-tariqatul qadria Sunni association AQSA through it’s tailoring and design project.

To date Gladys Zione has realised her dream of building a house through tailoring and design business.

Zione in addition is able to assist her children as well as her relatives.

On his part Muhammad Hussein At-tariqatul qadria sunni association AQSA tailoring and design project administrator said that the initiative is meeting its intended purpose.


According to Hussein they decided to run the project so as to help women to be self reliant regardless of any religious affiliation.

Muhammad Hussein in addition said that the initiative is being implemented in 12 districts in the southern region, northern as well as some districts in the central region.

Hussein was quick to say that plans are under way to go national wide as the demand for the AQSA tailoring and design project is high.

AQSA is a popular faith based organisation which uplifts women out of the circle of poverty and make then contribute to the GDP of the malawian economy.

The men in the village are also happy and say that their women will give a helping hand to the house.
