Inspector General of the Malawi Police Service, Dr. George Kainja on September 20, 2020 led police officers, traditional leaders and communities around Khonjeni Trading Centre in Thyolo in celebrating the opening of the new Khonjeni Police Unit.
The police unit has been constructed with Constituency Development Funds (CDF) with the leadership of Hon Ben Phiri MP for the area.
Since 1985, Khonjeni Police Unit has been operating from structures provided by Kumadzi Estate right on their premises.
In his remarks, Dr. Kainja promised to deploy additional officers to beef up manpower at the police unit.
Member of Parliament for the area Dr. Ben Phiri thanked Dr. Kainja for the project in his constituency.
He warned his party followers against indulging in criminal acts calling upon the police to arrest anyone on the wrong side of the law regardless of their political side.
Among those present at the function were Thyolo District Commissioner D. Moffat and Council Chairperson Sandram Maulana, Senior Chiefs Kapichi and N’chiramwira and Police Commissioner for South-Eastern Region, Mrs. Sekani Tembo.
