A 37-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly creating multiple fake accounts on social media platforms and then using them to collect nude photos of aspiring women female models and actors.
The incident came to fore after a 17-year-old girl approached the police and lodged a complaint stating that a woman named Rashi Goel contacted her on social media on the pretext of giving her a chance for auditioning for a social web series. The teenager said Goel introduced herself a model who was looking for fresh faces for an upcoming web series. She asked her to share her normal as well as nude pictures for auditions.
According to the police, the complainant sent her nude photos to Goel, but she kept on insisting her to share more. Following this, the complaint blocked Goel’s profile. After some time, two people contacted the complainant and began harassing her. They threatened her by saying that they would make her nude photos viral on social media if she refused to fulfil their demands. The duo also sent her objectionable images to two of her friends. Following this, she reported the matter to the police.
“During the investigation, four social media IDs, created allegedly to contact victims, were identified. Later, Mam Chand was held from outside his residence in Sultanpuri,” a report by news agency PTI quoted Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) Anto Alphonse as saying.
During questioning, Chand told the police that he never met any of the victims. Police found an audition form and obscene photographs of several women in his mobile phone. Four SIMs and three mobiles have been seized from his possession. Previously, he was booked for cheating in neighbouring Haryana’s Hisar.
