The Human Defenders Coalition (HRDC) is set to release a report detailing how some companies have dubiously been receiving business contracts from govt.

The rights body, which is running a separate whistle-blowing initiative is also pressing the authorities to prioritise black economic empowerment.

Chairperson for the grouping, Gift Trapence, indicates that most corruption cases in the country emanate from the process of awarding of public contracts to service providers.

In July this year, Tonse government temporarily suspend the awarding of all types of Government contracts to implement an audit of prospective contracts.

The audit aimed to ascertain the transparency and credibility of the processes and procedures followed and decisions made.

According to the reports, Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) government gave contracts to different companies without following the procedures and laws of Malawi.
