Mbakuwaku Movement for Development (MMD) leader Peter Kuwani has declared himself as winner of the fresh Presidential polls held on June 23, 2020.
Kuwani said this in a statement made available to faceofmalawi.
According to Kuwani, he is only the Presidential candidate who complied with the Supreme Court ruling regarding how the fresh Presidential polls should be conducted.
Kuwani accused the two candidate of failing to comply with the court order by reconstituting their runningmate.
“Having fully complied with the court order, MMD candidate technically won the Fresh Presidential election as held on 23 June 2020.
“In other words, *MMD candidate (PETER DSD KUWANI) is the legitimate President elect for the Republic of Malawi,” said Kuwani in the statement.
He added: “It is therefore imperative that the President elect should be accorded state security pending the swearing in ceremony.
“We have to respect the court order and uphold the rule of law.
“The court order should be fully complied with aimed at consolidating the gains attained by the country’s justice delivery system.”
The fresh Presidential polls had three Presidential candidates namely Peter Mutharika of Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) who picked Atupele Muluzi of United Democrati Front (UDF) as runningmate, Lazarus Chakwera of Malawi Congress Party (MCP) picked Saulos Chilima of United Transormation Movement (UTM).
