Residents of Likoma and Chizumulu islands and users of the MV Ilala can breathe a sigh of relief as the vessel resumes itsnormal voyages from Monkey Bay in Mangochi District.

Malawi Shipping Company publicist Thomas Chafunya said the company has resolved grievances with its employees who downed tools in June , a situation which left maritime transport users to resort to unsafe and overcrowded boats.

Chafunya said that all COVID-19 prevention measures will continue to be observed.

Built in 1949, the MV Ilala is a 400 tonne passenger and goods vessel with a capacity of 450 people.
