Human Rights activist Charles Kajoloweka, who is also the Executive Director for Youth and Society and team leader for Youth Decide Campaign, has turned down his appointment as board member for the National Youth Council of Malawi.
Kajolowera’s decision comes barely a day after President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera released board members of over 60 parastatals.
Speaking in an interview with the press Kajoloweka said accepting the position, which is a political appointment, would bring conflict of interest to the defence of rule of law and good governance.
He said it is not right for civil society organizations leaders to get involved in spaces that have the potential of compromising their independence.
According to Kajoloweka, Minister of Youth and Sports has already been informed on his decision.
