Police in Dowa have arrested a 28-year-old man on allegation that he defiled and impregnated a 16-year-old girl.
Sub Inspector Gladson M’bumpha, Dowa Police Public Relations Officer (PRO) has identified the suspect as Lackson Mkuweya from Zungulira Village in the area of Traditional Authority Mkukula in Dowa District.
He said the suspect is alleged to have committed the offence between the months of May and August 2020 at Buleya Village in Traditional Authority Mkukula in Dowa.
“It is alleged that the victim had a secret love affair with the suspect since May to September 10 2020 and the victim’s brother became suspicious on his sister for being pregnant. When the victim was quizzed about the pregnant, she admitted and mentioned the suspect as the one responsible for the pregnant.” Said M’bumpha
According to M’bumpha, the victim’s brother reported the matter to police leading to the arrest of the suspect.
“The victim was referred to the hospital where examination confirmed that she is indeed pregnant. The suspect will appear before court soon to answer a charge of defilement contrary to Section 138 of the Penal Code.” Indicated M’bumpha
