On September 26 2020 at around 10:00 hours at Ighembe, Karonga Police arrested three suspects for the offence of found in possession of government trophy contrary to section 110 as read with section 32, 33, and 35 of National Parks and Wildlife Act.

Karonga Police station Deputy Publicity Frank Black has confirmed.

According to Blank, the three are identified as Daniel Chipewa, 35 years old of Jobu Village, T/A Kilipula, Daniel Msukwa, 37 years old of Nowa Village, T/A kilipula, and Benald Musopole 38 years old of Mwangolera Village in the area of T/A Kyungu in Karonga.

The brief facts surrounding their arrest are that the three were found in possession of Pangolin which is believed to be a government trophy.

Pangolin is one of the protected species under National parks and wildlife Act of 1992.

Police got information that three men were selling Pangolin at Ighembe.

Black further added that following the information, police instituted an investigation into the matter. In the process of the investigation, police detectives disguised themselves as buyers and arrested the three who were selling the said specie to them at a price of K10, 000, 000 (Ten Million Malawi Kwacha).

The three will appear before court and answer the offence of found in possession of government trophy.

Some months ago, three men in Mchinji were slapped with 3 years in prison with hard labour for possessing the Pangolin, which is listed as a protected specie.
