First Lady Monica Chakwera has arrived at Luviri Secondary School in Chief Chikulamayembe’s area in Rumphi to receive on behalf of Government a K215 million secondary school complex built by a charity organization Eva Demaya.
Demaya has constructed two classroom blocks with four classes, an administration block, two hostels, one for boys and the other for girls, seven teachers houses and toilets, and is donating the infrastructure to Government.
Speaking during the function Minister of Education Agness Nyalonje says Malawi’s secondary education needs support to ensure more young people complete secondary school.
Nyalonje says Malawi is currently educating 15 percent of boys and girls and the trend needs urgent attention to allow more youths attain secondary education.
The Minister has since disclosed that the Ministry of Education will provide 200 beds and 200 mattresses to the school which has a boarding facility.
Prior to this development Luviri had no secondary school.
